Words matter.
If you’ve never thought about it before, think about this:
I have a dream. Four score and seven years ago. Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. These famous lines from speeches will live on forever.
Just do it, the real thing,I’m loving it. It keeps going and going. You can probably name the products that these ad slogans represent.
You will use words everyday, in what you say, what you write, what you email, text or tweet. You will use words on essays, book reports and term papers. You will use words to get a job, write a resume, express your feelings.
So get comfortable with stringing words together in a way that is clear and comfortable and correct, because—
A well written essay, book report and term paper will get you a better grade in school
Well written poems, lyrics, books and movies can move people to tears and joy, to the future, the past or frozen in time
Well written documents can move companies and countries to higher places
Well written letters can get a company to read your resume, manuscript, screenplay, song lyrics or complaint letter
Writing can take you to new places, to meet new people, to have new experiences
Writing can change a life. It did mine.
