Books for Kid's Birthdays

by Chrysa Smith

You've got a children's birthday party coming up. If you know what the child wants---great. If not, you should consider a birthday book for kids.

Why?

  • A birthday boy or girl can identify with the celebration
  • The topic is of special interest immediately, because the entire day is about celebrating a kid's birthday
  • A birthday book is generic enough when you're not sure of the specific interest of the child
  • A special celebration book is likely a gift others will overlook
  • If the book is signed for their special day, all the better

A Grand Slam Birthday is a great kids book for both boys and girls. It tells the story of Dory Oslo; one determined NYC girl who wants nothing more than to play baseball. When she winds up at her cousin's dull birthday party, Dory's gift changes the party completely around. A pinata, along with some party supplies gives the attendees everything they need----for a baseball game that is. Ring pops turn into microphones, wooden spoons into bats, paper plates into bases and balls? Well, they're used as is---and the game is off. A surprise twist comes when Dory's birthday girl cousin learns a thing or two about baseball, and Dory learns a thing or two about something she never dreamed she'd like in a million years.
